Now most ppl have heard the age ol' tale of the grandma/pa who can't walk due to arthritis of the knee... as medical students, EVERYONE has encountered such a patient at some point...
Well... I'm here to say that I can empathise with them.. No i take that back... i can SYMPATHISE!!!
How?! do u ask?
Well, because atm, I AM one of those ppl... Whilst not due to degeneration, my pain stems from trauma...
Last week, whilst being considerably dehydrated after consuming copious amounts of the substance known to many as "coffee" as I had drunk none of it the week before to my "We hate coffee" protests (I only do it once a month... just to prove im not addicted when I really am =P), I decided to do Wu shu. Now too much coffee isnt bad if ur hydrated... Did I drink anything BUT coffee that day? NO!!!
On top of this, the night before, I had gotten about 5 or 6 hrs sleep... this equates to very exhausted Raffy who is posturally hypotensive. Now Wu shu as you may/not know... is about balance and flexibility (2 things i dont have). So in attempting lame arse moves (such as jumps!) I fell over, picked myself up and tried again... only this time, I was kinda dizzy... SO when I landed I did so quite badly... So badly infact, that my torse was still spinning when my left leg hit the ground... Normally the knee comes in and saves the day, but this time, the evil that is "rotational motion" won out... and i heard a "crack!" Now my immediate reaction was "FUCK! I've stuffed up my knee!!!" In the next 15 or so minutes, Ice packs were administered, and a med friend went and did all the tests (draw, push, grind etc) Nothign really seemed out of place... Even after putting the joint through about 3 hrs of constant walking (dont ask, been already called an idiot for it) ... it seemed to be getting better... hence I hadnt really gotten it checked out by a professional...
It was all well and good... UNTIL TODAY...
When a friend asked "hey can u do this kick?" i replied... "YES!" Now I wasnt as stupid as to attempt a proper kick, I was merely tryign to show (with limited movement) the fact that you can perform the kick 2 ways... My knee didnt like this idea... It hated me for it... decided that it'd tell the muscles around it to mutiny and spasm... so they did! (Bunch on ingrates i tells ya!) This caused me to fall over, but due to my other legs momentum... I felt something from my knee joint that I really shouldnt have felt... and as such... I beleive that I have indeed FUCKED IT UP!
So its kinda like what it was a week ago... not as sore though... But yeah... I'm gonna get it checked out...
I AM AN IDIOT... I admit to it as much (Luckily the person who calls me that doesn't know about this blog ... i hope!)
But for those of you who beleive in God and for those who don't but beleive in coincidence/miracles/chance/watever... please pray/calculate/hypothesise/watever that I have a functional knee by the end of it... I havent done half of what I want to... and I really dont wanna stop now!!!
