lived the dream...

Just an update on the last post: I saw the Aurora!

Let's hear that again- I SAW THE AURORA!

While I have to say it wasn't what I had imagined (this year was supposedly quite average), it did indeed give me chills up the spine when it appeared.

It was an hour out of Reykjavik on a cold Friday night, somewhere close to midnight. I set up my new camera to take some scenery shots. After the first 30second exposure, I saw this faint glimmer of green on the horizon and there it was...

A majestic luminous spectacle. The Aurora is hard to describe but it does feel like it almost is alive, like an intelligent being gently brushing past our world. Strangely, it reminds me of a whale.

I don't know how much of my excitement was from seeing the Aurora and how much was just from achieving that childhood dream, but what I do know is that it's a night I wont be forgetting for a while.

Without further ado: some photos.

Wow, it must be great experience to see such rare and beautiful scene. It is amazing to think that naturally our planet can create its own work of art.
